Mass Effect 2 Statistics Revealed by BioWare
September 7, 2010 at 2:20 PM

Mass Effect 2 executive producer Casey Hudson has revealed some interesting statistics from the game over at IGN.

BioWare put a whole bunch of hooks into the game, revolving around "events" to track things that players were doing. For example, the developers could track when dialogue was skipped by the player, leading them to discover that 15% of conversations were skipped by the total player population.

Looking at all of these events on the PC and Xbox 360, BioWare found that the average completion time was 33 hours and that around 50% of players imported a save game from the original Mass Effect.

PS3 Firmware Update Combats Jailbreak Devices
September 7, 2010 at 10:35 AM

Sony has launched another mandatory firmware update for its home console, with hopes to close a hole in the system's security.

According to the BBC, firmware update 3.42 for the PlayStation 3 will combat the recently released USB device PS Jailbreak and other software-based emulating exploits.

Since it first appeared online for sale, Sony has battled to keep the USB dongle PS Jailbreak out of the hands of its customers. Using a security loophole, the device allowed gamers to play pirated software.

Sony would not detail the specific changes made in the update, but a representative told BBC: "As we always have, we will continue to take necessary actions to both hardware and software to protect the intellectual content provided on the PlayStation 3." Further detail on the European P...
